What Is a Shadow Box Frame?
A shadow box frame is a deep-set picture frame that creates space between the glass and the backing board. This allows you to frame small 3D objects and add depth to items like photos, fabric, or keepsakes. Many of our frames also include an acid-free matboard for a clean presentation.

Box Frame vs Shadow Box – What’s the Difference?
While both styles offer a deeper profile than standard frames, shadow box frames have a larger internal working depth - ideal for mounting 3D items. Box frames, like our Gallery and Decorator series, are suited to flat artwork or for creating a more pronounced display effect.
What Sizes Are Available?
We offer a variety of square and rectangular shadow box sizes, with a 20mm working depth. Common configurations include:
- 8x8in (20x20cm) with 6x6in (15x15cm) matboard
- 8x10in (20x25cm) with 5x7in (13x18cm) matboard
- 10x10in (25x25cm) with 8x8in (20x20cm) matboard
How Are Profile Shadow Box Frames Made?
Each frame is assembled in our Sydney workshop using premium timber from environmentally managed plantations. We use real 2mm float glass (not acrylic) and our unique manufacturing method avoids glued-in glass, so there are no messy glue marks and no risk of future adhesive failure.
All frames include an acid-free window matboard and solid MDF backing. Smaller sizes come with an easel stand, and larger sizes include metal D-rings and real hanging wire (supplied loose) for wall mounting.
